An EAP is beneficial to both the company and the employee. It helps employees with problems that may impact their job performance, health, mental and emotional well-being, whether the problem is personal or work-related.
EAPs are generally free, and are confidential. They usually include assessments, referrals, short-term counseling, and follow up services. They have also been shown to prevent and cope with workplace violence, trauma, and other emergency response situations. They can help reduce: occupational stress, substance abuse, emotional distress, stress due to life events such as a birth, death or accidents.
